So where does this name come from? It started with Madeleine and Karlerik that both had very common family names. When they got married they decided to pick a new name and chose the name Birmé.
Questions have been asked to find out the origin of the word Birmé but no good answers have been received. Answers like "It sounded as a French word" does not really clarify what made them come up with this name. It will remain a mystery.
So, how big is this family? Both Madeleine and Karlerik had big families. Born and raised in the northern part of Sweden. Together they moved around a bit and have been living in Gävle but since 30 years back they live back in north, not far from their birth places. They are both retired.
They have raised two kids, Jonas and Jenni, who were adopted from Indonesia. Both have grown up and now have their own families. Jonas married Maria, who took the family name Birmé, for a couple of years ago but since the end of 2009 no longer married. Jenni is married with Erik and have two children.
